Indie Director Lars Kokemüller Comes With Leon Must Die, A Movie That Recalls Terminator
Since 1984, when ‘The Terminator’ was first released, moviemakers have been trying to enter the ‘Assassin from the Future’ genre with varying degrees of success. A new German production, ‘Leon Must Die’, tries to tap the same territory and proves to be an entertaining fare. Directed by Lars Kokemüller and produced by Lars Kokemüller, the film is an attempt of its indie filmmakers from Germany to reach an audience that goes beyond the range of their movie.
The movie is about a woman named Aqua sent back in time to kill a young, terminally ill man named Leon who has invented how to download human minds into computers and wants to prolong his own life. His invention has ruffled some feathers as it can ensure the continuation of humankind. However, Aqua is unable to kill Leon and falls in love with him. Her boss, Luna, sends another killer, XP 10-3, to finish off Leon. Aqua stands between Leon and XP 10-3 to save her lover. However, another woman comes to convince Leon to download his mind immediately. This sets a perfect chaotic scenario that takes the movie forward to an exciting climax.
The film stars Philip Spreen, Nisan Arikan, Alexander F. Obe, Ebba Ekholm, Dustin Leitol, Vikrotia Steiber, Jens Holzheuer and Christoph Hars among others. The story and music are by Lars Kokemüller and the visual effects are given by Christian Grundey. The Radikal & Arrogant production immediately brings the immensely popular Terminator series to the mind.

Although it is shot on minimal budget, the movie Leon Must Die delivers the philosophy of the James Cameron movies has a tongue in cheek kind of storytelling. It is endearing to see the attempt of the director to bring to life this unusual tale of science fiction with likeable actors and subtle efforts.
