Getting to and from the Republican and Democratic Conventions was a little greener this time around, thanks to Freewheelin, the pedal-powered bike bus program provided by well-being company Humana Inc.
The Freewheelin pedal bus was provided to both host cities, first for the Republican National Convention (RNC), held in Tampa from Aug. 27-30; and then for the Democratic National Convention (DNC), held in Charlotte from Sept. 3-6. Each bus accommodated up to 8 people and was furnished with it’s own driver thanks to Freewheelin.

To continue the Freewheelin legacy, Humana donated five pedal buses and one fruit cart each to the Tampa Downtown Partnership (RNC) and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation (DNC) in Charlotte.
“While the RNC and DNC may have come to an end, we hope that all the delegates, media and visitors return home with the notion that taking small steps to improve their health can lead toward lifelong well-being,” said Mike McCallister, Humana’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Humana is thrilled with how Freewheelin was embraced at each of the respective cities and is delighted to leave behind pedal buses for both cities.”
