(Before It's News)

This weekend Labor politicians will decide whether or not to pass a motion to publicly support solar thermal for Port Augusta.

The campaign to Repower Port Augusta has demonstrated huge support for solar thermal through a 300km Walk for Solar and rally, nation-wide media coverage and bi-partisan support in the SA parliament for a select committee to research solar thermal.

To Repower Port Augusta we need the state and federal governments to work together and secure funding for the project. This weekend, at the South Australian Labor Party conference, the Australian Services Union are moving a motion for the state and federal government to support building solar thermal in Port Augusta.

Can you call influential politicians and make sure they support the motion?

Senator Farrell: 8231 8400
Senator Wong: 8212 8272

We’ve put together some pointers for you so don’t worry if this is your first call to a politician’s office, it’s easier than you think:

Step 1:Keep calm and put a smile on.
The Senators needs to hear that the community wants renewable energy. You’re doing a great thing!

Step 2: Explain who you are and why you’re calling.
For example you could say: Hi, my name is … from South Australia, I’m calling to find out if the senator will be supporting solar thermal in Port Augusta this weekend at the ALP State conference.

Step 3: Add extra information if you get the chance:

  • The Australian Services Union is moving a motion calling on the convention to support solar thermal being built in Port Augusta
  • This is the opportunity to see the carbon price working and create clean energy jobs here in South Australia
  • The Port Augusta and broader South Australian community are behind this – it’s now the Senator’s turn to be a champion for solar

Thank you and good luck!
