(Before It's News)

Energy and water are intimatly tied to the health of our environment. In Canada, we have the proud title of a top 10 largest energy consumers per capita. Partly due to our industrial base, huge physical area and cold climate, but we should not forget our failure to properly implement energy efficiency programs or very cheap electricity in Québec. To get an idea of where our energy comes from, Glen Newton put together some great infographics of energy and water flow in Canada. He is planning to add more provinces as he locates data. Take a look at the infographic below and the original interactive version here.

A major ingredient to extrating oil from the tar sands is water, lots of it. Using the same technique as above, Glen Newton mapped out the flow and usage of water in Alberta. The quantities are truly mind blowing. Original interactive versions can be found here.
