The Re-Election of Tyrant

(Before It's News)

Mr Obama has now been re-elected for a second and final term of office. He says he has still many things to do in his presidency. I agree. Running a powerful conflicted nation like the United States is not easy. There are many interest groups that lobby for what they want and many problems in the economy which must be solved.

However a nation is defined by how it provides justice, not only within its own borders but outside them. A nation which allows injustice becomes a tyranny, not a democracy, and a tyrant is no less a tyrant having received a popular mandate to reign.

Mr Obama is now an elected tyrant because he commits outrageous acts of injustice. He he is to be more than an unpleasant footnote in a future history book, he will have to bring justice for all, not just a select few in a select place.

I can remind him of the most important things that he should be doing:-

  • He should be closing the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay and bring those incarcerated there into the judicial system, giving them a fair trial for any crimes they may have committed or giving them their freedom if they are found to have committed no crime. This is not rocket science but a simple way of bring justice to the Obama reign.
  • He should stop the sending of drones to murder people in Afghanistan and Pakistan. As President he is subject to the law and the law does not permit the murder of people. I reject the complicated legal arguments that the President uses to exercise what he claims to be his right and duty to kill others; these arguments are just so much hogwash.
  • He should provide a better system of free legal defence for persons accused of crime who cannot pay the costs of their defence; these persons are fighting against such a power institution that without competent lawyers many innocent people are convicted of crimes that they did not commit.
  • He should abolish the death penalty, because no person or system is infallible.
