Nov 15, 2012 – What’s better than riding a bicycle to save energy? Well, there is an energy cost to producing more bicycles for everyone to ride and keep at home when they’re not riding. How about a bicycle sharing program similar to ZipCars [and others]? I recently saw such a system in Boston. It is called Hubway.
OK. Now, what is wrong. You can’t use the bikes in the cold weather in Boston. Here is a notice on their website: The 2012 Hubway season is coming to a close. Beginning November 19, we will begin removing up to 6 stations per day. We will give 48 hours of notice preceding the take down of each station on our News page, as well as on Facebook and Twitter. until 11:59 PM on November 28 when the system officially closes. You will still be able to return bikes after that time but new rentals will not be allowed. Hubway will return to the streets in March, 2013.

just try removing the “Boris bike” London system during winter it runs at a loss as it is. There would be riots!( not quite..) only problem is that if you have an accident they deduct the first £250 from your credit card that you paid on ( in the contract of hire, no damage wavier possible) if you have an accident. good news for car drivers but not for mummy that let her child ride one paid for on her card. but then would have to be mad to allow in London traffic anyway. I have had a few near misses by foreign tourists looking the wrong way (left side road drive in uk).
