voanews.com is reporting over 120 people have died already in parts of Siberia from the brutal temperatures dropping as low as minus 50 C which is -58 Fahrenheit. ,7 or more deaths in the last 24 hours.[Temperatures in Tyva region of Siberia Tyva region of Siberia where temperatures have been -40 C for several days. It is so cold that many heating pipes have frozen and thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes.]

This article is very misleading. Magnetic north has not yet passed Greenland, so while it is indeed travelling ‘towards’ Russia, it is actually only just off the coast of the north American continent, a huge distance away from Russia. Texas is closer to North Nebraska than magnetic north is to Russia.

while i agree with anon that barracuda is a conspiracy nut job squared, it’s certainly no secret that the magnetic north pole has been shifting to the northwest for quite some time. so much so that the usda with little fanfare altered our own hardiness zone growing maps on seed packages a year ago. i can now grow plants in north carolina that in the past were grown in north florida 350 miles away. all the zones shifted substantially north indicating shorter winters and more temperate weather conditions in much of the united states. for some reason the meaning behind information didn’t get picked up by main stream or even off stream media.

Although some of what Barracuda posts is true (and I admit, some of them are diamonds in the rough), he has no filter. A large portion of his posts are baseless. I’d rather be forewarned on things that are are legitimately true and have been backed by legitimate sources rather than mindlessly consuming fear porn.

By the way, this is old news, from 2010. Right now, the magnetic north pole is moving towards the geographic north pole. And what does the Russian cold snap have ANYTHING to do with the magnetic north pole? The geographic north pole is staying put. Do you think that the jet stream follows the gradients of earth’s magnetic orientation? lol. If our atmosphere was a metallic vapor or plasma, maybe. But as it is now, no. Like I said. Baseless fear porn, with a little bit of truth sprinkled in.
Some people think that 35 to 40 miles a year is not much,but here in Florida a decade of this means different species invading other parts of the State. We are at the opposite end of the continent that the pole is moving away from. But by all means issue more carbon credits to pollute the air with coal. That still does not change the fact that man has nothing to do with the weather patterns,just the quality of the air.
When people speak of temperate zone movement they are speaking of something else: this point is to do with orientation of the earth toward the sun and sun strength, not magnetic field orientation.
May i say….. there is plenty of credible evidence regarding polarity reversals and mounting evidence to suggest that we may, be fast approaching the next reversal. May i add….. all this stuff is very fascinating and i wish only three things; to shed light on misconceptions, to make us think and learn, to challenge what we think we know.

Why isn’t there any up-to-date info on the magnetic north pole movement? The movement of the MNP is caused by forces external to the earth. This is proven by the fact that the MNP moves in a small circle every day consistent with the position of the sun while the earth turns every 24 hours. This straight line, high speed of 25+ MPH daily by the MNP indicates that an external force is having a greater influence than our sun. Some have hypothesized that our solar system is passing through the galactic equatorial plane which is a region of intense gravity with a north and south magnetic polarity on each side of this region. If true, this would also explain why we are experiencing so many asteroids these days as this intense region of gravity would tend to hold any stray galactic materiel in this region. If this is true then the MNP will reverse its direction after the solar system has passed through this region and the south magnetic pole will start acting up. I would also expect an increase in earthquake activity for a while.
