• Cold wave in Uttar Pradesh, India
  -At least 26 people died in the last 24 hours because of the extreme cold in Uttar Pradesh region of India.
  -Fatalities are from Basti, Jaunpur, Ballia, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Bhadohi and Chandauli.
  -All schools and colleges in Lucknow are closed till January 5, 2013.
  -All major trains from the capital Delhi to Lucknow are running slow due to dense fog.
  -Several flights to and from Lucknow were cancelled.

• M 4.7 moderate shallow earthquake Offshore Libertador O’higgins, Chile (@ 12 km depth) with epicenter located 60 km SW of San Antonio. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Cartagena, Melipilla, Santa Cruz, Conchalí, Renca, Santiago, Vitacura and Viña del Mar.

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Bolivia (Madre de Dios), Brazil (Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq (Shatt al Arab and Tigris), Kenya (Tana), Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile, White Nile), Syria (Euphrates), Tanzania.

• Flooding in Brechin, Scotland
  -Floods displaced people of 100 homes across Scotland.
  -Arbroath, Brechin, Stonehaven, and the Northern Isles were hard hit b recent floods.
  -The roads network across Angus and parts of Perthshire are also affected by flooding.

  -Storm in Canberra damaged several houses. A fallen tree damaged houses in Summerville Crescent, Florey.
  -Four other houses were evacuated after two gas leaks were discovered on Newman Morris Circuit.
