Recent Natural Disasters 

• Tornado in Sleman, Indonesia
  -Around 14 people injured in a tornado in Yogyakarta area of Sleman, Indonesia. Tornado damaged more than 500 houses.
  -Tornado hit 10 villages in Sleman, with most damage in Bromonila village in Purwomartani.
  -Several flights to and from the Adisucipto International Airport in Yogyakarta were also disrupted by the tornado.
  -Tornado in Sulawesi, Indonesia on February 24, 2012 killed five people.

• M 4.7 moderate earthquake in Tajikistan (@ 158 km depth) with epicenter located 17 km ESE of Murghob. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Khorugh, Shache and Kashi (China).

Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Brazil (Rio Paranaiba, Juruena, Purus and Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Colombia (Putamayo and Rio Negro), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Guatemala, Indonesia, Iraq (Euphrates and Tigris), Kenya (Bohoni and Turo), Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile), Taiwan, Tanzania (Mwanza Shinyango road), Uganda (White Nile) and United States (Rio Grande, North America).

• Flash floods in Maguindanao and Bukidnon, Philippines
  -About 200 families of Montawal town in Maguindanao province displaced by recent floods.
  -Heavy rainfall in Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro City overflowed Pulangi River.

Recent Volcanic Activity
Erupting Volcanoes: Propocatepetl, Fuego, Reventador, Villarrica, Stromboli, Nyiragongo, Ol Doniyo Lengai, Erta Ale, Marapi, Semeru, Paluweh, Gamalama, Lokon-Empung, Sakurajima, Ulawun, Yasur, Ambrym, Kizimen, Shiveluch and Kilauea volcano.

• Indonesia/Mount Lokon recent volcanic activity
  -Mount Lokon send a column of ash and smoke to 3,500 meters high.
  -The volcanic ashes fell mostly on the southeastern slope of the volcano.

• Typhoon Bopha
  -As of 12:00 UTC, Typhoon Bopha was located 215 nm northwest of Manila, Philippines.
• Tropical Cyclone Claudia
  -As of 12:00 UTC, TC Claudia was located 450 nm south-southeast of Diego Garcia.

• There is rumor (hoax) mainly over Facebook that NASA has predicted 3 days of darkness – a ‘total blackout’ on earth on Dec. 23-25, 2012. Most versions of the text include a link to a two-and-a-half-minute YouTube video. But note that NASA has predicted no such thing.
