Bentek has reported that it will provide a large number of string combiners and cable harnesses for the Centinela Solar Energy facility in Calexico. It is a 200MW project which broke ground in December. 700 million dollars is the cost and it should employ a large number of workers — at least for the construction phase. The Imperial Valley has very high unemployment, so any infrastructure projects which employ local workers is very welcome.

When local workers are utilized on such projects, they not only make money for themselves and their families, they also learn skills they can transfer to future solar installations, so they are more employable. Overall, such projects have a great benefit on their local economies.
The new solar plant should be up and running by the beginning of 2014. Power generated there will be sold to San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E).
