Problem Solving – mountains of problems

(Before It's News)

A mountain viewed from a long way away looks just like a ripple on the horizon but you can see the whole mountain  As you get closer the size of the mountain appears larger and larger, but it and you have remained the same size, it is just that perspective has changed.

The closer you are the more clearly you see until you become too close to see the whole mountain; as you climb you can only focus on a very small area of what you are climbing. You can no longer see the whole. If you reach the top and the weather is clear you can see behind you the place from where you have come and ahead new places where you may go.

Our problems are mountains and we climb them to understand them and solve them. If we choose the wrong path we will never solve them. This means that we must constantly re-assess whether the path we have chosen is the best way to the top, or whether other paths will get us there sooner, better and with less risk.

There are many problems to solve, environmental, economic, problems of war and problems of peace, problems created by the complex inter relationships of six billion souls on this small sphere.

Those who govern us, those you serve us in their governance of us, need to have the humility of a mountain climber. They should be prepared to admit what they do not know, for that is the start of wisdom. We need to be more understanding of their mistakes and we need to accept that those who govern will often make mistakes, tread misleading paths and fail to solve problems.
