Reuters have recently highlighted an article about the herbicide glyphosate from a special issue of an online journal entirely devoted to disorder (Entropy).
The text of the surprising Reuters post is here:
Heavy use of herbicide Roundup linked to health dangers-U.S. study By Carey Gillam
April 25 (Reuters) – Heavy use of the world’s most popular herbicide, Roundup, could be linked to a range of health problems and diseases, including Parkinson’s, infertility and cancers, according to a new study.
The peer-reviewed report, published last week in the scientific journal Entropy, said evidence indicates that residues of “glyphosate,” the chief ingredient in Roundup weed killer, which is sprayed over millions of acres of crops, has been found in food.
Those residues enhance the damaging effects of other food-borne chemical residues and toxins in the environment to disrupt normal body functions and induce disease, according to the report, authored by Stephanie Seneff, a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Anthony Samsel, a retired science consultant from Arthur D. Little, Inc. Samsel is a former private environmental government contractor as well as a member of the Union of Concerned Scientists…
Here is a link to the Entropy journal special issue –

We find a useful description of the biosemiotic entropy issue there too:
Special Issue Information
An amazing 8 papers in this special issue of Entropy involve Stephanie Seneff, more than the number of her papers that she has cited in comprehensive Pubmed medical database, but then again, the Entropy journal is not included in the Pubmed database. Neither does Pubmed database use the term term “biosemiotic entropy”, so Stephanie is really breaking new ground. What with her medical discoveries being so very cutting edge– autism and MMR vaccination, glyphosate herbicide toxicity and so on, it’s odd, that she should choose the journal Entropy for this — as it has hardly any medical expertise in the editorial board, and 8 the papers would cost her CHF 9600.
One of Stephanie’s articles is particularly noteworthy— it uses empirical data, no-less:
Review: Empirical Data Confirm Autism Symptoms Related to Aluminum and Acetaminophen Exposure

Entropy 2012, 14(11), 2227-2253; doi:10.3390/e14112227Abstract: Autism is a condition characterized by impaired cognitive and social skills, associated with compromised immune function. The incidence is alarmingly on the rise, and environmental factors are increasingly suspected to play a role. This paper investigates word frequency patterns in the U.S. CDC Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) database. Our results provide strong evidence supporting a link between autism and the aluminum in vaccines. A literature review showing toxicity of aluminum in human physiology offers further support. Mentions of autism in VAERS increased steadily at the end of the last century, during a period when mercury was being phased out, while aluminum adjuvant burden was being increased. Using standard log-likelihood ratio techniques, we identify several signs and symptoms that are significantly more prevalent in vaccine reports after 2000, including cellulitis, seizure, depression, fatigue, pain and death, which are also significantly associated with aluminum-containing vaccines. We propose that children with the autism diagnosis are especially vulnerable to toxic metals such as aluminum and mercury due to insufficient serum sulfate and glutathione. A strong correlation between autism and the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine is also observed, which may be partially explained via an increased sensitivity to acetaminophen administered to control fever.
Here is an example of those data:
Hmm? Searching a vaccine complaints database for word correlations — that’s really innovative. A completely new way to to use correlation to imply disease causation.
Al last the Pundit understand what biosemiotic entropy is. It’s a real-life re-run of Alan Sokal’s famous “Transformative Hermeneutics of Quantum Gravity”.
But, dear reader, wait, there is much, much more.
Biosemiotic entropy is a sumptuously rich plate of correlation conniving as causation. Orac has been there already, last November:
But there is recent follow through too :
