Global Warming Improves Mental Health, Research Reveals

seasideIn September 2011, 244 people lost their lives and over 2,000 homes were destroyed when Category 3 Hurricane Gavin slammed Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, with 120 mph winds. In July 2012, another 96 people lost their lives and 1,200 homes were destroyed when Category 4 Hurricane Al destroyed portions of Mobile, Alabama, with 140 mph winds. And who can forget Category 5 Hurricane Michael roaring into Savannah, Georgia, last October killing 1,650 people and destroying half the city with its 170 mph winds?

None of these major hurricanes occurred, of course, which illustrates how we are enjoying the longest period in recorded history without a major hurricane striking the United States. It has been 8 years and 4 months since the last Category 3 or higher hurricane – which hurricane scientists refer to as major hurricanes – struck the United States. The old record was merely 6 years and 2 months without a major hurricane.
