Russia is getting greener
Russia isn’t usually regarded as very friendly when it comes to Green movements. However in recent years more and more eco villages have been springing up all over the country. By the end of last year data provided by Russian green activists shows there are now around 250 eco villages. Some of the projects aren’t only Russian. This year a group of people from Russia, Israel and Brazil have started to promote a new project: «Integral Sustainability Education» (ISE). The aim of this project is to give all interested in ecology theoretical and practical knowledge to achieve a Nature friendly style of life. It is strongly connected to the so called Permaculture Revolution (How to live in Harmony with Nature)
People are invited to spend about 2-3 months in eco villages situated in very different climatic zones: in Siberia, Russia in the Altai Mountains region, in the desert or mountains of Israel and in Chapada Diamantina in the Brazilian jungle.
The first part of the project will start in Siberia this summer. One of the co-founder of the Siberian eco village ChaChgaevka is Aleksandr Ivanov. He is currently travelling across China researching Chinese green way. In an interview he gave via e-mail he told me that there are about 15 families living in Siberian ChaChgaevka for part or most of the year. There are three comfortable houses and some houses in the process a being built. The Altai Mountains is one of the most beautiful region of Southern Siberia and not far from Mongolia. Its Nature is really wild and of extreme diversity and greatness.
The ISE project will start in ChaChgaevka from 1 July. The two-month retreat includes a full basic course of Permaculture and Integral Sustainability, seminars of Somatic studies and Contact improvisation, Healing, work with emotions and feelings. There will also be short classes (workshops) on different disciplines given by different teachers on such topics as use of tools, working with alternative energy (solar batteries, etc.), working with herbs, weaving, etc.
The aim of the project is to give tools to support further ecological projects. At the end of the course students will be qualified in supporting Eco Village projects.
The Russian green activists believe that Russia with its endless land and attitude to global mission is the best place on earth for a significant new start of green ideology along with a new style of life.
The second part of the ISE course will take place in Israel and the third part in Brazil.
