Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has defined Disaster assistance as:

The financial or direct assistance to individuals and families whose property has been damaged or destroyed as a result of a federally-declared disaster, and whose losses are not covered by insurance

FEMA has recently mentioned the rumors verses facts about disaster assistance. The most common question is whether survivors can register or not for FEMA assistance.The fact is that survivors may be eligible for FEMA disaster aid for their uninsured and underinsured losses and damage.

It takes a long time for FEMA disaster aid to reach survivors

FEMA deploys Individual Assistance specialists on the ground. Specialists will continue to process assistance for eligible survivors as applications are received.

If survivors receive FEMA assistance, it could reduce their Social Security benefits

Disaster assistance does not count as income. FEMA assistance will not affect Social Security or other federal benefits.
