Moscow, 25 June 2015 (Prensa Latina) – The wave of fires in the republic of Buryatia in Siberia, moved about two thousand hectares in the last 24 hours, and already covers 13 thousand square kilometers, confirmed the territorial forestry agency.

At least 29 sources were located in 11 districts and in the outskirts of the regional capital, Ulan-Ude, in the National Park of the Trans-Baikal Fauna, and the Natural Reserve of Lake Baikal, said spokeswoman Alexandra Yegorova.

A lightning caused a raging fire that extends over 850 hectares in the natural reserve of Baikal, said the spokeswoman to the press.

810 firemen, 87 specially equipped vehicles, 22 tractors, and 87 bulldozers are taking part in the battle against the flames, as per reports.

With a territory of 351,300 kilometers, Buryatia extends along the coast of Lake Baikal, with 80 percent of the relief occupied by mountains, and among its economic resources stands out the gold, tungsten, zinc, and uranium mining.
