Remember when a plethora of New Yorkers were jumping ship in their droves to California? Of course, you’ll vividly remember that. Even till now, California is stacked full of defunct New York citizens. A lot of people believe that the California residency violates the identity of a New Yorker and tell themselves that the move is temporary, until they find themselves neck deep in endless summers, drinking binges and psychics, fortune telling and astrology. Living life as a residency of California is quite glamorous (I mean, who wouldn’t want to live in the city of Angels? Staples Centre? Oh yeah!). Despite this, a lot of them will still dream of moving back home. After all, every dream life comes to an end and you will have to get back to reality.
When you’re moving back to New York, however, there are bound to be some things you’ll miss. Adjusting to life might not really be as easy and instant as you originally thought. Look at a few things you’ll miss, as well as some you might want to look out for while moving:
“Acclimatizing” to “Winter”
The keywords here are put in brackets because they aren’t really taking their usual and contextual meaning. It’s a well known fact that the weather in New York is brasher and more hardly felt than that in California. So as a recently moved New Yorker who moved in from Cali, you might notice that the weather is colder on you than it is on the residents you’ve come to stay with. It’s just your body getting used to the way things are now. No need to feel weird or anything.
Get a reputable moving service
Moving is a delicate task, even without the fact that you’ll be doing so between states. A lot of times, due to road conditions and length of time,. Things get lost or damaged in transit. Sometimes, it could just be the incompetence and insubordination of your moving service. This is why you should ensure that you employ the right Cross Country Movers to help you handle and move your stuff.
Keeping up with trends
While California and her inhabitants might turn a blind eye at your fashion don’ts and faux pas, New Yorkers might not be so kind. In California, most people develop a certain ‘one outfit fits all’ type of fashion sense; they wear almost the same things everywhere, without giving a care/. As long as it’s decent and presentable, you’re good. However, in New York, everyone seems to be more concerned with what you’re wearing and whether you’re conversant with the latest fashion trends and vogues. Trust me; it’s a labyrinth to navigate through.
Awesome Mexican food
This is personally one of the things I miss the most. Don’t get me wrong, the Mexican food in New Yorkis great, but it’s usually sold at exorbitant prices and in small quantities too, if you think about it. If you’re a lover of better and highly beneficial Mexican food, you’re sure to miss that about Cali.
The smell of fresh air
New York is the commercial capital of the world, with a population that is steadily on the riser. You can imagine the scent of different foods, products and other things pervading the air. While you can easily walk into a Victoria’s Secret shop and pretend like you’re looking through prices while you’re actually just savoring the sweet smell, nothing really beats the smell of the fresh ocean air and that’s abundant in California.
Casual walks in and around
There is absolutely no allowance for casual strolling on the streets of New York. Everyone is on the go and probably doing two or three things while simultaneously walking. You can imagine navigating through this maze of bodies and street corners. Back in Cali, things are quite different; at least you can take a breather while walking and take in the sights and sounds of the Bay Area.
