Save-A-Pet to Host “Black Cat Friday”
(Port Jefferson Station, New York) — Instead of dealing with the lines and crowds at your local retail stores, Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue and Adoption Center, Inc. is advising you to consider adopting a black cat in need of a special home on Black Friday, November 29, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Often, black cats are less likely to be adopted due to superstitions and their tendency to appear to age more quickly because of excessive gray hair. According to a study conducted by the University of California at Berkeley, orange or Siamese cats are almost always adopted before darker-colored cats.
Many forget the benefits of adopting a black cat, one being that their ebony hair is less noticeable if it clings to clothes and furniture. Another is their playful personalities and elegant appearance.
At this event, Save-A-Pet will be waiving adoption fees for black and black-and-white cats in hopes of getting their furry adoptees a permanent home.
“We are excited for ‘Black Cat Friday’ because we continually see a lack of adoption for black cats,” says Save-A-Pet Founder/President Dori Scofield. “We are hoping that this event will help the public see how friendly and gentle these cats can be. We’ve got some wonderful black and black-and-white cats available for adoption and we’re urging the public to come and meet them on Black Cat Friday.”
