TAMPA, Fla.- (Jan. 17, 2014) – In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his tremendous accomplishments during the civil rights movement, the Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, Inc. (CDC of Tampa) will be hosting a “Paint for Peace” event at the Alfred “Al” Barnes, Jr. Park on Jan. 20. Participants will paint the concrete pillars surrounding the park using themes associated with Dr. King’s legacy. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We are very excited to see how everyone expresses their thoughts on anti-violence in the community and appreciation for the great efforts made by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to create an equal and accepting nation,” said CDC of Tampa Event Coordinator, Julie Rocco.
The national Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service was created to pay respect to the civil rights leader and challenge Americans to take civil action and participate in volunteer services that bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems and move the nation closer to Dr. King’s vision. “Paint for Peace” will culminate with volunteers providing a brief presentations on their artistic rendition of anti-violence and how their pillar will promote public safety in the community.
