Keynote Speaker CBS Correspondent Barry Petersen Offers a Personal Insight on Being A Caregiver

What: Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc., (ADRC) will be hosting its 10th annual Alzheimer’s Disease Education Conference & Expo “Caring with a New Perspective.” The event will include a discussion panel, breakout sessions, and local exhibitors. Dr. Scott Noggle, Director of the New York Stem Cell Foundation Laboratory and the NYSCF-Charles Evans Senior Research Fellow for Alzheimer’s Disease, will share his latest research findings on Alzheimer’s Disease using stem cells. A caregiver discussion panel moderated by Ellen Tolle, RN, will host Patricia M. Lazazzaro, author of My Love, which chronicles her husband’s struggle against Alzheimer’s Disease. In addition, ADRC’s Legal Advisory Committee will present “The New Long-Term Care Landscape — Benefiting from the Changes.” CEUs have been approved for Nursing Home Administrators, Social Workers, and Recreation Therapists.
This year’s luncheon keynote speaker, sponsored by Royal Healthcare Services, is Emmy-award winner Barry Petersen, CBS News Correspondent and author of Jan’s Story: Love Lost to the Long Goodbye of Alzheimer’s. Mr. Petersen will be discussing the book and his experience as a caregiver for his wife, who struggled with young-onset Alzheimer’s Disease at the age of 55 before her passing. He is an avid supporter of Alzheimer’s Disease research and donates 10% of the proceeds from his book to Alzheimer’s Disease programs and research.
Following the luncheon will be more breakout sessions, an ice cream social, and a plenary session showing/screening of the film The Genius of Marian. The movie documents the filmmaker’s mother, Pam White, through her early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. The film’s producer, Banker White, will appear via Skype.
