(Before It's News)

(Center Moriches, NY) — The Moriches Paquatuck Squaws will help Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck kick off the spring season with its first annual Spring Fling Joy Prom on March 28, at the camp’s newly renovated dining hall from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. For $25, guests will be able to enjoy dinner, dessert, and a night of dancing. The theme of the Joy Prom is butterflies, due to their metamorphosis. “Children with special needs are changing every day, similar to beautiful butterflies,” said Dorothy Elliott, Treasurer and Event Chair, Moriches Paquatuck Squaws.

The event is being presented by The Moriches Paquatuck Squaws, which has held numerous fundraisers for the camp. Parents and children with special needs can come down for an exciting night, while raising funds for future camp programs. The dress attire for the evening is formal.

There will be an elegant buffet of catered dishes and kid-friendly foods, as well as some of the camp’s specialty desserts. Those in attendance will enjoy music and dancing. This is a perfect event to jumpstart the spring season — a closer time to the camp’s thrilling summer sessions.

“We are excited for an elegant evening with our campers, families, and supporters, all while raising money for our many programs,” says Bridget Costello, Director, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck.

Ms. Costello first learned of the idea for a Joy Prom when her brother, Jim Reilly — who has special needs — was invited as a guest. Her family was impressed, not only by the event’s festivities, but by the overwhelming support of the community. She later approached the Moriches Paquatuck Squaws to see if the camp could accommodate an event of this magnitude, with an emphasis on the work the families do with special-needs children.

“One of the most enticing aspects was that we could pay tribute to the caregivers and offer them a delicious meal while their child was having a blast! Unfortunately, caregivers are often overlooked while the work they do is critical, constant and without adulation. There was not a better group to ask to be involved and support this event than the Moriches Squaws as they embraced it entirely from the moment they heard the idea. I thank the Squaws for sharing the vision of the Prom and for their tireless efforts to make it happen,” she adds.

To purchase a ticket, please contact Dorothy Elliott at (631) 766-2474. Tickets must be bought before March 14th. (Tickets will not be sold at the door). Payments can be made by mailing a check or money order to The Moriches Paquatuck Squaws, at P.O. Box 83, Center Moriches, NY 11934.

Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck was created by members of the Moriches Rotary Club in 1946. Located on the shores of Kaler’s Pond on eastern Long Island, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck is funded primarily by donations and is a special place where children with physical and developmental disabilities can experience first-hand the pleasures that an active life has to offer. Children participate in a wide range of activities especially designed for youngsters who are in wheelchairs as well as those who are ambulatory. These activities include swimming, boating, arts and crafts, petting zoo, talent shows, cook-outs, games and a Carnival Day. The program also provides educational activities in areas such as nature, arts, fire safety and communication skills.
