(Before It's News)

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has unveiled a range of new devices, including a red iPhone and a cheaper iPad.

The tech giant will launch a smaller 9.7-inch iPad, starting at US$329 (£339) for a 32GB model with wifi only and rising to US$529 for the 128GB model with 4G. It features a split screen mode and retina display.

The new iPad comes after Apple decided to drop its ‘Air’ branding from its tablets. The company intends to split the iPad line into three: an expensive iPad Pro, a cheap iPad mini and the original iPad.

The group has also released a red iPhone7 and 7 Plus as part of its Product Red Campaign, which makes a contribution from every purchase to the Global Fund for HIV and AIDS programmes.

The special edition iPhones will be released in bigger sizes of 128GB and 256GB models, starting from US$749 each. Until now the iPhone was only available in 16GB and 64GB sizes.

Apple has so far generated more than US$130moln through its charity campaign, having already released a range of other red products including cases, an iPod shuffle, nano and touch, and a red Apple Watch sport band.

The red iPhones and the cheaper iPad will be available from 24 March.

The new products were revealed alongside a new app called Clips, which allows users to animate videos and photos to share on social media.

iPhone 8 and 10.5-inch iPad rumours…

The refreshed devices come ahead of the release of Apple’s iPhone8, which is expected to include wireless charging, an edge-to-edge display and no home button. For the iPhone’s 10th anniversary Apple is rumoured to be designing three versions of the smartphone, including one with an organic light-emitting diode screen, rather than the traditional LCD.

The new iPhone may also reportedly feature augmented reality (AR) technology, including the ability to view additional information about an item or place by using the camera on the phone’s screen. Bloomberg reported that Apple has been heavily investing in AR products. Apple has declined to comment.

Apple’s shares have jumped moe than 300% in the past five years despite increasing competition in the smartphone market, as it continues to generate hype surrounding the release of its iPhones each year.

Meanwhile, the company is also reportedly working on a 10.5-inch iPad that will be slimmer and have an edge-to-edge display.
