Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) is to scrunch two dinosaur internet brands together – Yahoo! and AOL – and will call the combined entity Oath.
Verizon’s acquisition of Yahoo!, first announced back in July of last year, has finally closed, paving the way for a rebrand at the corporate level, though the Yahoo! brand will live on as an internet portal with a rag-bag collection of add-ons such as mail, groups and news.
The bit Verizon did not acquire has already been renamed Altaba, and is essentially a holding company, with the main holding being a stake in Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA), the e-commerce giant.
