The current exhibition at Gillmeier Rech in Berlin units the work of IVANA BASIC and ANTOINE RENARD who has been previously featured here on wfw.

IVANA BASIC creates lifelike yet contorted mutated fragments of the body thanks to the use of realistic materials such as silicone, wax, steel, and cotton. The pieces for the Berliner gallery give the impression to pinpoint the moment where attraction and the grotesque are held in productive tension. The series of sculptures by ANTOINE RENARD‘s is rather muted in comparison with BASIC‘s work. Nevertheless the series seems to be concerned with the nature of the material itself, the form and production in the tradition and concept of sculpture.

Both artists used the human body in this exhibition, by morphing it in order to examine the image of the human being, but also to question the boundaries between abstraction and representation, as well as the dissolution of forms or images – from the human to the monstrous, for instance.

This exhibition is on view at Gillmeier Rech until January 9, 2016
