CorruptOfficeExtractor is a GUI powerhouse piece of freeware for recovering data and text from corrupt MS Office 2007 and 2010 format files. In addition to displaying extracted text or data from corrupt docx, xlsx, and pptx files, it features the ability to test and repair the zip structure of the Office files.

MS Office File Recovery - CorruptOfficeExtractor

Docx, xlsx, and pptx files are in reality conventionally zipped collections of XML files. File corruption can occur to the zip or the XML parts. Zip repair is occasionally useful for recovering text/data from these files. Usually, however, the native extraction abilities of this program without any repair is the best that can be done.

This program works to recover text and data where MS office fails because MS Office has both poor zip corruption recovery and still strict XML format requirements. Corrupt Office Extractor has neither of these problems.

There’s even an advanced view, too, for those brave souls wishing to attempt to explore and repair corrupt XML. The program also works as an editor after the text is recovered in either the standard or the advanced mode.
