Twitter. Just say this word at any party or social gathering, and you’re bound to get a variety of interesting responses. Some people love it, some people hate it, and some people just don’t care. No matter how you feel, you can’t argue how important Twitter has become in today’s social media-driven society. Most of us have a Twitter account, whether we use it non-stop or only on occasion.

Even some of the most popular television shows, like The Voice, uses tweets to engage their viewing audience. During their live final shows, viewers are encouraged to tweet in order to save a contestant from being eliminated from the show. In fact, Twitter experienced a whopping 300,000 tweets during the Video Music Awards performance by Miley Cyrus. If you have any doubts as to the popularity of Twitter, this infographic will resolve them for you once and for all.

Twitter has amassed the immense power to help people connect in an instant – from anywhere and at any time. Being able to do that can unite people quickly around a cause, giving them the leverage they need. As we all know, there is power in numbers. Just look at the power Twitter gave the Egyptian Revolution; a historical event that managed to overthrow the regime of Hosni Mubarak, and you won’t be able to question its efficacy.

You have to wonder if Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, had any idea how large it would grow when he humbly tweeted his first time, “just setting up my twttr.” If you haven’t set up a Twitter account by now, you may find yourself rushing to the site to sign up once you review the information here. After all, everyone wants to be more connected, so to be a part of something so mighty and influential is a win-win. Get yourself in the loop on Twitter, so you can be one of the 347,222 people tweeting every Twitter minute a day.
