Either completely ignorant of the history of relations between China and the U.S., or completely oblivious to same, Donald Trump spoke with Taiwan’s President Friday, threatening to ignite a diplomatic showdown with China even before he takes office.
Said Barry Pavel, director of the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security at the Atlantic Council. “We’ll see the Chinese reaction in several hours. I don’t expect it to be pretty.” The danger, Pavel said, is that “the Chinese are going to think it was deliberate and that this is the beginning of a hostile policy by the Trump administration, upending the basic geometry of diplomatic relations between the US and China since 1979.”
The Republican Party has been seeking to dumb this country down since their Sainted Ronnie Reagan destroyed California’s free university system – the finest public university system in the world – until he got his jelly-bean grabbing hands on it. And now, in Donald Trump, they, and their dupes, have their Avatar of ignorance.
This ignoramus is the logical extension of the Republican’s fear of intelligence – especially when present in voters. Intelligence to Republicans is as wooden stakes, garlic and crucifixes are to vampires. That such an uninformed lout will shortly slither into the Oval Office is the direct result of what happens when funding for education is continually slashed under Republicans, and the resulting welcomed stupidity is nurtured by Republican cynicism. Even before he drags his nepotism and conflict-of-interest baggage into the White House he is already acting the international moron, thus burnishing the world’s already low opinion of him and his staggering ignorance of world history. But wait – he did keep a book of Adolf Hitler’s speeches near his bed, so…
When a boorish, loudmouthed, insecure, thin-skinned, narcissistic conman can rise to the office of the President of this country doesn’t this prove that we are truly the land of opportunity?
Or should that be land of opportunists?
