London, UK (PRWEB) July 06, 2011

Solar System for iPad is now available from the iTunes App Store fully translated into both Japanese and German. Solar System for iPad is a truly dynamic and interactive book about our solar system, featuring a fully manipulable 3D model of the solar system built using scientific data from NASA curated by Planetary Visions. The English title was App of the Week on iTunes and has sold 50,000 copies. It also won the FutureBook award for best digital book at the Bookseller's Book Industry Conference, held in London in May.

The publishers Faber & Faber and Touch Press are honoured that the Japanese edition has been translated by Hiroshi Itokawa, nephew of the great Japanese rocket pioneer Hideo Itokawa, after whom the Itokawa asteroid, which is prominently featured in the app, is named.

"I felt a kind of destiny," said Hiroshi Itokawa. "Maybe my uncle on the other side is telling me to do this job."

The Solar System app also includes a haunting and majestic instrumental track specially adapted by Björk from her new Biophilia project. For the moment, the track is available exclusively in Solar System for iPad.

Touch Press also produced The Elements, which has now sold over 220,000 copies worldwide. Faber & Faber is one of the great independent publishing houses in London. Established in 1929, Faber is proud to publish prize-winning fiction and non-fiction, as well as an unrivaled list of modern poets and playwrights, including six Booker Prize winners and twelve Nobel Laureates. Faber and Touch Press have also collaborated on The Waste Land, a groundbreaking iPad edition of T.S. Eliot's great poem, which was released in June to international acclaim.
