(Before It's News)

Belkin, a name that has long been associated with home networking products that are on par with the best out there, has just launched a range of modular, Wi-Fi-based devices that they call WeMo. The WeMo will basically have the power of GreySkull, wait a minute, I have my quotes all mixed up. The WeMo offers can transform an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into a remote control for household devices. This is made possible thanks to the presence of two initial products, the WeMo Switch and the WeMo Motion.

WeMo will play nice with the free WeMo app thrown into the mix that allows it to create a scalable, customizable home control system which was specially designed to provide added safety, convenience, and peace of mind.

Jamie Elgie, senior director of product management for Belkin, said, “WeMo uses familiar technology to create a plug-and-play solution for controlling gadgets and appliances remotely. Designed to address simple automation needs without the hassle or expense of whole home automation, WeMo is an easy and fun way to put your home at your fingertips.”

The WeMo Switch functions as a small device that you plug straight into any electrical outlet, where it will function as the main building block for WeMo. Once the Switch has been hooked up to the home Wi-Fi network, all devices plugged into it will also be able to be turned on or off remotely, regardless of whether you are at home, or out on the move – all thanks to the WeMo app. Not only that, the WeMo app will also allow users to place devices on a timed schedule, a move that will come in handy if you are about to head off for a long vacation so that people will think you are at home, as these devices will turn on or off at pre-set times.

As for the WeMo Switch + Motion, it will throw in a sensor which is able to detect motion within a radius of 10 feet, and will also perform a turning on or off anything plugged into the switch depending on the motion detected. The app also enables users to draw up their own set of rules or schedules that will be based on customized intervals.

The WeMo Switch and WeMo Switch + Motion will retail for $49.99 and $99.99, respectively.
