(Before It's News)

In the early days of most hardware, functionality comes before form. After all, what was important was to make sure a particular device or machine worked as intended – no more, no less. After that, you are more or less free to think of ways to not only make that functional machine smaller and more efficient, but also nicer to look at with your own two eyes. Take the smartphone for instance, Apple’s iPhone was clearly head above shoulders from the other QWERTY-sliding smartphones back in 2007, and this design idea has filtered down to current day smartphones, too.

LG did work hand in hand with fashion house Prada in the past to reveal their LG Prada and LG Prada 2 devices, but those did not really take off in a big way. This is not to detract from all the hard work put in, the whole idea just did not really jive with the mass market, although I do admit that LG’s Prada handsets were definitely works of art, and worth taking some time off to look at. Well, there is another new device from LG which was announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, earlier this year – the LG Optimus L5, and we are glad to say that the smartphone has finally made its way to the mass market – starting with Europe first.

The LG Optimus L5 is said to be one of LG’s stylish, high fashion L-Series smartphones, where it will debut globally in key European markets later this June. Starting off with the U.K., Germany and France, the LG Optimus L5 will continue its worldwide debut in the CIS, Middle East and Asia markets before taking the long ride across the ocean, arriving on Central America and South America shores after that.

In order to maintain the L-Style’s elegant design philosophy, the LG Optimus L5 sports a seamless merger of style and technology. It comes in an extremely slim body that measures just 9.5mm (although this is not the thinnest smartphone to date), the lack of physical space within should not be seen as a betrayal of its capabilities. No sir, those living in Asia, CIS, Middle East, Central and South America will be able to get a model that has dual SIM support, while folks in Europe and North America will receive a model that does NFC “Tag & Play”.

Other hardware specifications include a Cortex A5 800MHz processor, a microSD memory card slot, 4GB of internal storage, a 4″ HVGA touchscreen display, a rear 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, and an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
