Privacy

With the world at our fingertips these days, we tend to forget that our online world is also at the fingertips of others, and there are some crazy folks out there. Social media has become something of a peeping tom platform, and there’s no easy way of stopping it. Or so we thought.

What’s PrivacyFix?

Enter PrivacyFix. Finally our prayers are answered with this little browser extension. Now you can control all your privacy settings across multiple social media and online platforms, all in one place. Whether you play for team Chrome or Firefox, it’s easy and could be a complete life-saver. No jokes. Do you really want some foreign creep browsing through your photos, activities and daily business? Or even worse some online corporation who uses your information (which you may or may not be aware you are providing them with) against you? I didn’t think so.

How It Works?

Once you’ve installed PrivacyFix, it can be set to automatically check through your online world, including your Facebook page and Google account, and notifies you of all the bugs and gaping holes in your online security settings. When you want to fix or reinforce these problem areas, it directs you straight to the place to do it. Besides social media, there’s a web section where you can check your settings for the rest of the sites you frequently visit and conveniently request them to leave your information alone and delete all your personal data. It can even find out which advertising companies are paying websites for your data, and are then using that data for clever ad campaigns to encourage consumers just like you. Talk about an invasion of privacy! But here’s how PrivacyFix is letting you get yours back; they introduced a feature that ranks different website on how secure they are and their privacy policies. It’s a great way to take back the power from the web and become your own watchdog. And PrivacyFix doesn’t collect your data either, if that’s what you were thinking. All the calculations are done right in your browser, where none of your information leaves your server. Only your IP address is sent to PrivacyFix which they delete immediately.

User Experience

I tried it out and was surprised at the things that had fallen through my seemingly-flawless privacy settings. Also, the interface is easy to use and it doesn’t clutter your bookmark bar as it opens in a separate window. I found PrivacyFix user-friendly, helpful and a great little add-on to have. There’s no overload of platform privacy setting pages which you could find yourself anyway, instead it offers a focused breakdown to see where you’re going wrong and where you can tighten up, and only once you decide to correct your privacy setting errors does it direct you to the place to do it.

Verdict

It’s easy and it could save you from some horrible online fiasco. It could even save you some money. But it will definitely save you some peace of mind. And most importantly, it’s free. Get it here.
