According to Digitimes, Samsung will launch Galaxy Note 5 on August 12 at an event in New York, and will kick off its sale right after one day. A report about the popular Note phablet claimed that Samsung will bring forward the launch date of Note 5 ahead of Apple’s next iPhones, scheduled to be unveiled in September 2015.
Normally, Samsung’s Note series is launched in the last quarter of the year, mainly in the beginning or mid of September. But this time, the South Korean giant clearly intends to take on Apple by launching its Note 5 right one month ahead.
Moreover, a report from Sammobile added further heat to the news by claiming that Galaxy S6 Edge+ will also be unveiled alongside Note 5 on August 12. These phones will feature dual-edge displays, and will be hitting the market on 21st rather than 14th August. The gap between launch and availability of “+” avatar looks like a fair gap that usually falls between launch and market availability of Samsung products. The company is likely to bring a rich set of features with the new smartphones, and might also introduce its own Pay service specifically for US users.
According to tipped specs, Galaxy Note 5 will be 7.9mm thick, and will sport a 5.7-inch to 5.89-inch display, powered by company’s Exynos 7422 chipset and a bigger 4100mAh battery. It will be coming with S Pen just like previous Note devices, and will feature the upgraded version of TouchWiz just like Galaxy S6.
Few days back, a report claimed that Galaxy Note 5 will come with a USB 3.1 Type-C port. There is no confirmation about the existence of this feature, but if it goes right, the new Note 5 will be providing extreme transfer speeds by up to 10Gbps, and will feature the upgraded Power Delivery spec for saving power up to 100W.
Meanwhile, the existence of large screen variant of Galaxy S6 Edge or the dual-edge variant of Note 5 has also been by Samsung from its own FAQ page. Talking about front-facing camera and OIS causing floating lens effect, the page referred models SM-N920 and SM-925F as two of unreleased Samsung devices. The previous generation of Note smartphones came with model numbers SM-910, and SM-915, and these two might just be their successors.
