What you are about to read is a direct result of the international war on drugs. Tragedies like this will become more and more common, until drugs are no longer illegal. This particular massacre was caught on camera and the filmmakers have decided to release this film to the public in to raise awareness of the human toll of the drug war and to help bring it to an end.
Last year disturbing video surfaced on the internet. It showed the murder of an American film crew in Mexico. When a local drug cartel got word of a movie being made in the area, they mistakenly assumed the producers were rich men. The cartel came onto the set and confronted the film makers. Things went terribly wrong, and most of the cast and crew were killed while the cameras were still rolling.
The survivors of the massacre managed to make their way back to the states. Although all of their equipment and most of their friends were gone, they still had the film they had already shot. All except the last roll. The roll that was in the camera when the killings occurred.
Eventually the last roll resurfaced. Its not clear how, but the film was saved. And after a long series of middle men, it found its way back into the hands of the producers. It is currently being used to try and identify the guilty parties. In the meantime, after much deliberation and a few death threats, the producers decided to use the new footage and release the film, EL COYOTE-the last movie, in defiance of those who have tried to stop them. One of the producers, Sergio Coyote was quoted as saying, “This has gone on long enough, and its got to stop the situation in Mexico is out of control. we went there to make a horror western and the reality was worse than anything we could have imagined. its bullshit, so we’re putting this out as a message that were not gonna tolerate this any more and neither is anybody else. it wouldn’t be fair to all the people who died.”
The film is currently available free to the public, here
