As of Today Here is the LATEST FACTS ON EBOLA from International SOS:
“8 August
“The World Health Organization has declared the Ebola situation to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). The declaration and the recommendations do not change International SOS current advice, however we are monitoring closely to see how member states will implement the recommendations.
“The statement confirms that countries which have transmission of Ebola should declare a national emergency, and consider temporarily stopping mass gatherings. WHO advises countries ensure adequatemanagement of cases (including diagnostic capability, adequate PPE, security for healthcare workers), andquarantine can be considered as necessary. Education of the public on the disease and preventive measures needs to continue. All affected countries are instructed to screen exiting international travellers. The screening should include a minimum of a questionnaire and temperature measurement. Anyone who has Ebola or symptoms of Ebola should not travel. Contacts of Ebola cases should be monitored on a daily basis, and should not travel nationally or internationally for 21 days after exposure. However healthcare workers who have had NO unprotected exposure are not restricted from travel. WHO expects countries to ensure airline crews have “appropriate medical care” when operating in affected countries, and have mechanisms for contact tracing of travellers. WHO again reiterated there is “no general ban on international travel or trade“, however Ebola cases and their contacts should only travel if “the travel is part of an appropriate medical evacuation”.
“Liberia: According to the latest update by the Ministry of Health, additional cases and deaths have been confirmed. Healthcare workers continue to be affected. Unconfirmed sources report that Liberian authorities have closed all land borders. The military on 7 August set up a blockade to stop people moving from Ebola affected regions into Monrovia.
