WASHINGTON – The seven-year saga of the Keystone XL pipeline culminated Friday in U.S. President Barack Obama rejecting a project that had become the biggest irritant in Canada-U.S. relations, amid its improbable escalation from an isolated land dispute into a major cross-border environmental struggle.
After years of suspense and a change in government in Canada, Obama called the new prime minister to break the news Friday: the Keystone Pipeline project is being rejected because it’s not in the U.S. national interest.
According to public statements from both leaders, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed disappointment but vowed not to let the development poison relations between the countries.
Did you really think that Muslim-raised Barack Hussein Obama was ever going to approve the Keystone XL pipeline? Why would he? If that pipeline is ever built, it would dramatically reduce America’s need to import Muslim oil from the Middle East. This has nothing to do with the “climate change” scam, saving the spotted owl or anything else. This has everything to do with keeping America tied to our Arab oil masters.
TransCanada first submitted its permit application for the 1,600-mile, $7 billion project to the State Department in 2008. Because the pipeline would cross an international border, the State Department was responsible for determining whether granting a permit for the project would serve the national interest.
The pipeline would have shuttled up to 830,000 barrels of oil per day from Canada’s oil sands to U.S. refineries. The southern portion of the pipeline has already been approved and constructed and is pumping oil from Cushing, Oklahoma, south to Port Arthur, Texas.
