Netherlands: Riots In Geldermalsen Follow Decision To Build Refugee Center

16 December 2015, NETHERLANDS,
A plan of the mayor and town council of Geldermalsen (Province of Gelderland) to build a hugh asylum seekers centre in order to harbour 1500 people, had led to heavy riots. The riots had taken place at the moment the gathering on the subject was still going on in the conference hall. The demonstrators had broken through the fences and ports. They had smashed windows, thrown brick stones and fire work at the building. Earlier in the evening had some hundreds of demonstrators gathered for a protest march. Though very quickly the demonstration had turned into a wild riot where special forces of the police had to be involved in order to keep the order and protect the people inside the town hall. Police had to use their guns for a salvo of warning shots.
The riot in Geldermalsen was till now the most violent in the Netherlands on the subject of receiving the flood of refugees from the Middle East and Africa.
