50% of Americans At Or Below Poverty Line
As I covered earlier, CNN reported the following:
Some 28% of workers are expected to hold low-wage jobs in 2020, roughly the same percentage as in 2010, according to a study by the Economic Policy Institute.
The study defines low-paying jobs as those with wages at or below what full-time workers must earn to live above the poverty level for a family of four. In 2011, this was $23,005, or $11.06 an hour.
The truthiness in the CNN article of course comes along with political shades. The purpose of the article is not to potentially beat down the spirit of the reader, but is also to smear the numbers and the direness in which the U.S. finds itself.
But, as the propaganda fails to scramble minds of the population with gobbledygook, the real numbers are coming out, and the direness is well known. The article cites a study which states that “28% of workers” are expected to toil under a magnet to the system, the low-wage. That means that 1/4 of workers will be in 2020, and were in 2010, at the poverty line according to the government’s number. But, the key to this sentence is isolating the variable of “workers” which does not mean the entire population of $315 million. The article obfuscates therefore the issue completely by not factoring in the official unemployment number – official numbers are what the axiomatically problematic study is based – which is $8.3%, although that number was adjusted down to 8.254% as if by jester by a pronouncement on the White House website. The article, in other words, totally fails at truly expressing the gravity of the U.S.’s current reality.
To take the state-enterprises’ numbers as accurate in determining the nature of the employment landscape is scientifically naive. But, let’s do it to get an idea of what the dominant propaganda allows us to believe. Of 315 million people in the United States, 8.254% of that population is officially unemployed. Provided this is true, that means that 26,000,100 people are unemployed. And so, 289 million workers nationwide therefore. Provided that, of those 289 million people, 28% of them exist in a low-wage position, that would mean another 80, 920, 000 at the poverty line. Add this 80,920,000 to the 26,000,100 officially unemployed and you get 106,920,100. That is 106,920,100 at the poverty line in the United States, one-third of the population about.
And that’s derived by using the official number, not the correct number. In a world where the oxygen of the way things are is deceit, the way things are can be an absence of light. With a more accurate unemployment number, as reflected in the U6 reading (the government’s broadest number), the number of unemployed is 22%. This is common sense except for among the ostrich people. So, let’s do this again but with accurate numbers: 22% of 315 million makes 69.3 million unemployed. That is nearly three times the amount of the official number. Now we are left with 245.7 workers, whom are fewer than the 289 million assuming an official unemployment figure, 28% of whom makes 68, 796,000. So, now, when we add 69,300,000 – that is, those unemployed – to the number making poverty-wages, 68,796,000, we get a total of about 138,096,000 at the poverty line in the United States today. That is nearly 44% of the population living in poverty.
The propaganda posits time-and-time again that those U.S. citizens living beneath the poverty line is 40 million, 1/8th of the population. But, this just is not so.
The truth of the matter is much different. The U.S.’s standard of living has been brought down via mathematics and the perpetuation of those mathematics. Talk of the New World Order, although mired by the ad hominen attacks against its use, has been accurate, although it does fall short in consistently suggesting that the New World Order is something of the future. On the other hand, a conservative examination of the phrase exposes it to describe the way things are. It was understood twenty years ago as a financial and economic coming to pass. Multinationals would run nations. Global institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank would decide the fate of nation-states. All of this is the way things are in the here and now. Not the way they will be in the future.
The U.S.’s role as a unilateral Empire making the world safe for “democracy” has come to an end in the age of globalism. Today, global institutions, such as the United Nations and NATO are able to make the world safe for humanitarianism. The American Dream then could be put to rest, as a ballyhooed U.S. public was no longer needed in order to implement the “Washington Consensus” across the globe. Much of the world, especially the southern hemisphere, have come under the dominion of the United States. The Empire has 700 military bases across the world. U.S. imperialism has spread the globe. The U.S. population no longer needs to be distracted from the wrongdoings of its government. It’s now time for the wrongdoings of its government to dramatically affect the U.S. population.
In cities like Detroit, Troy, New York, and many others, the New World Order is already a sour reality of daily life. In Troy, NY, during the 2008 election, the majority black population was not concerned with who was to become president. They knew this choice would not affect them. They did not know who Barack Obama was. They knew better than to care. While U.S. citizens bemoan nations across the world as “failed states” and dangerous, they ignore this reality in their homeland. The favela, the slum, the hood, is growing in their backyard, all the time.
