Last week the New York Times published a letter to the editor by Hal Quinn, President and CEO of National Mining Association.
Quinn writes, “If the White House is to ‘bring manufacturing home,’ it must first help establish domestic supply chains of minerals — raw materials vital to American industry.”

Mr. Quinn is correct – the materials needed to continue to build and strengthen the American manufacturing base are all available in the United States. The U.S. ranks third in the world for mineral wealth, yet ranks last for mine permitting time length. (Source: PricewaterhouseCoopers Report: The Economic Contributions of U.S. Mining in 2008)
We need to fix our broken permitting system to allow access to these minerals in a timely manner. There is no viable reason for our permitting process to take an average of 7 to 10 years. Streamlining the permitting process is the only way to develop a strong mineral supply chain for American manufacturers and revitalize our economy.
Please share with your friends and Representatives to let them know you support American mining to strengthen our economy!
