On the Road in the USSA
This week SV is on the road cruising through the US, staying far away from the nine-to-five lifestyle endemic to man. With the air in hair and the stumbling conversation of long-distance to keep him entertained, expansive views extend from the American highway. But, on the public road, the new America is clear as a Yosemite day before the chemtrails.
In Jack Kerouac’s great American novel of decadence and movement, “On the Road,” the famed writer wrote:
They danced down the streets like dingledodies, and I shambled after as I’ve been doing all my life after people who interest me, because the only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones that never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn…”
Today on the road in the USA, mad ones exist like never before in the USSA. They’re all locked up in behind bars. Forget the sixties, as totalitarian political ideologies set the nation on fire back then, for today traveling is not the search it once was as it was for Kerouac. Hollywood is creating their own rendering (with a foreign director) of the great American novel, “On the Road.”
Kerouac on the road today would write a much different novel. It would be a novel of technocracy, police and looking over shoulders…
No word from the studio whether or not the movie will take into consideration the forced evolution the US has gone through and work in to the movies script scenes more fitting of the USA we know today: checkpoints, drugged up cops salivating at the mouth to bend the novel’s characters over backwards, broken roadways and construction work just for the sake of construction, to no end.
These are the scenes of the new US. In the middle of nowhere USA, in the middle of any night, you might find yourself stopped in the middle of pines, mountains and rivers, far away from the cries of the major city west, Los Angeles, trailing a pilot car. There are plenty of construction workers, and the task set out ahead of them? To direct traffic.
In a new sort of world, a freer world, people wonder who would build the roads. But, driving through the states as we are today, it is clear that, considering who we have building the roads today, we should not be worried about that freer future and its road builders.
Through the towns of middle America, here and there, towns pop up in the distance. The highway on which you are suddenly becomes a 25 mph stretch of land as you slam on the brakes and make sure you don’t spill your drink. You crawl through the town and it is creepy. Although it is only 9am, nobody is around or seemingly awake. Perhaps a haggard man with a haggard stick in hand stumbles along the sidewalk.
Cop cars parked perpendicular along the road await slip ups and traffic stops. Do they not know that their once revered position has been reduced to the status of glorified security guard with a license to kill? There is no honor in being a police officer in the US today.
More updates to come from the road, and be sure to join us this weekend at the Silver Summit in Spokane, Washington. Currently, I sit on the cusp of Yosemite National Park. It is closed because the government fears we might drown in the snow. But, the park DEFINITELY is not closed to chemtrails!
