Marc Faber, editor of the Gloom, Boom and Doom Newsletter, checks in by phone with the Squawk on the Street gang on CNBC this Tuesday morning as gold and silver were under assault and the Big Markets were still in spring rally mode, with the Dow probing new highs.
Faber points out that European and emerging markets have underperformed since January, making the U.S. “the only game in town.”
The problem is, Faber says, that when something becomes the only game in town it is likely setting up for a sudden plunge, like in 1987.
“I'm very careful or cautious about the U.S. market and I think we can very well first rise and then have a crash from the summer onward,” Faber said ominously. (More, video below.)
But Faber says he’s not yet taking any short positions in U.S. equities with the Fed still printing so many new U.S. dollars.
As usual, CNBC spends too little time with their guest, leaving us wanting.
