By now; regular readers are aware of a startling admission from the mainstream media. It came in the form of a video presentation from The Economist, titled The World in 2016.
A twenty year academic study found that when it comes to predictions, so-called experts are as accurate as dart-throwing chimps.
Here it is important to note that forecasting (in one form or another) represents most of what these “experts” do, in terms of their interaction with the general public. Typically, the mainstream media trots out one of these charlatans after some major event, or important statistical release, and asks “how will this affect us?” In other words, what comes next?
Now we know that, for at least the last twenty years, every time one of these charlatans opens his/her mouth to tell us what comes next, all that comes out is gibberish. We would literally get just as good an answer from a chimp.
This brings us to our second major point of analysis. It is these same charlatan experts whom the mainstream media showcases, in order to validate the “news” they feed to us. No matter how absurd or improbable are the events being related, there is always one or more charlatan experts standing ready to rubber-stamp the mainstream media’s propaganda. Now we know that this rubber-stamp of approval from these charlatan experts is worth no more than a U.S. dollar.
The propaganda of the mainstream media now stands bare. Their precious “experts” who legitimize all of this propaganda have been exposed as nothing more than vacuous wind-bags. The “news” fed to us by the Corporate media must now be validated by some other means, or it loses any legitimacy. It becomes nothing but unsubstantiated words.
The most obvious manner in which the mainstream media could legitimize its “news” would be to begin to provide real, detailed explanations of events and statistics. That’s called journalism. But that’s not what we get. What we get are two-minute sound-bites (or less). A mainstream talking-head provides the barest summary of the facts, states a conclusion, and then has some charlatan expert standing at his side to rubber-stamp that conclusion.
We now know that rubber-stamp is totally worthless. Thus what we are really getting in our “news” is some media mouthpiece simply stating conclusions – which are completely unsubstantiated. We have a word for that: propaganda.
The mainstream media has now exposed its own experts as charlatans. For the last twenty years or so, the Corporate media oligopoly has relied entirely upon “expert approval” to validate its so-called news, because true journalism has been completely abandoned in favor of an endless stream of sound-bites.
None of these sound-bites have any analytical validity, at all. Thus this propaganda oligopoly now has a choice, after having exposed its own “news” as nothing but unsubstantiated assertions, masquerading as facts. The mainstream media can either revert back to true journalism and begin to explain the events it presents to us (in more than short, vacuous sound-bites), or the mainstream media loses all relevance/legitimacy.
Of course we will never see the former, since the gibberish presented to us as “news” or “statistics” cannot be explained, because it has no substance. This is precisely the reason why the Corporate media began its exclusive format of sound-bite pseudo-journalism – it was the only way that this propaganda machine could hide the fact that its so-called news was/is nothing more than brainwashing.
