Hi, my name is Monty and I live in Oroville, California, only a couple of miles from the Oroville Dam. Before I go on, I would like to say that on three different occasions I have met three different old timers who worked on the crew when the dam was being built, and I asked all three of them If the following story was true and all three said yes, it was true.
This is what I was told by a friend of mine whose father was building a house overlooking the Oroville Dam which was then just being built, and he said his father also recorded the project on 35 mm film.
He claims they discovered a vein of gold 4 feet wide and they didn’t know how far in it went, and that the government stepped in to shut down the dam project. For two weeks, military trucks went in and out of the project area 24 hours a day. Then after two weeks, the military trucks stopped, and the building of the dam continued, which buried the gold vein.
It was all kept hush hush because there was no press involved, and the Oroville Dam workers were told never to talk about it with anyone.
