Home of Kyle J. Norton for The Better of Living & Living Health Vitamin C or L-ascorbic acid is a water-soluble vitamin needed for the growth and repair of tissues of the body. Epidemiological studies showed that diets high in fruits and vegetables are associated with lower risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke and cancer, and with increased longevity(1a).
Vitamin C decrease the elevated levels of blood hydroperoxide, glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein (LDL)
In the study the effect of vitamin C on oxidative stress, blood lipid profile, and T-cell responsiveness during streptozotocin (STZ)-induced type I diabetes mellitus, researchers found that Vitamin C was found to significantly decrease the elevated levels of blood hydroperoxide, glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in diabetic rats. Furthermore, it was found to restore CD28 expression, AKT phosphorylation, actin polymerization, and polyfunctional T cells (IFN-γ- and IL-2-producing cells that exhibit a high proliferation capacity)(21).
