2009-10 Swine Flu Vaccine Linked to Sleep Disorder Narcolepsy

Several European countries pushed vaccines on their populations during the 2009-2010 swine flu pandemic, urging their populations to line up for the injections to ward off H1N1. Now, however, officials are recognizing that the vaccines weren’t completely safe. Shocker, I know. Researchers have found a link between the vaccination Pandemrix and narcolepsy in children, although it isn’t the first time the two have been linked.
Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder that causes those suffering from the condition to fall asleep uncontrollably. In extreme cases, patients will suffer from hallucinations or collapse. But would your doctor tell you that the H1N1 vaccine side effects include such a disorder? Well, probably not.
In particular, the link was found in Sweden and Finland, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), who also looked at data from other countries including Britain, France, Denmark, Italy, The Netherlands, and Norway.
Sweden and Finland had noted a higher incidence of the sleep disorder among children prior to the start of the study.
“The case-control study found an association between vaccination with Pandemrix and an increased risk of narcolepsy in children and adolescents (five to 19 years of age) in Sweden and Finland,” said the ECDC.
The study didn’t compare the risk of narcolepsy with vaccination to narcolepsy absent vaccination, but did find the rate of those with the sleep disorder for those who were vaccinated to be one in 20,000.
Pandemrix is made by Big Pharma company GlaxoSmithKline. It was developed to counter flu pandemics and was patented in 2006. “Very common” side effects of the vaccine include headache, tiredness, pain and swelling, fever, and aching muscles. “Common” effects include flu-like symptoms and swollen glands in the neck, armpit or groin. At a rate of 1 per 20,000, narcolepsy would fall under the “very rare” side effect classification.
Big Pharma produces drugs faster than the industry can test and analyze them for risks or benefits. How can one possibly know the long-term effects of something that’s only been in production for a few years?
While narcolepsy in children is a serious matter, there is much more that could stem from receiving the H1N1 vaccine or almost any other vaccine for that matter. So far, we know vaccines to be linked to deadly nerve disease, autoimmune diseases, and even Type 2 diabetes. And this is only the tip of the iceberg.
