(Before It's News)

Lately, there have been tons of reports going around regarding the increase of the number of men going under plastic surgery procedures for self-improvement. Fears of this particular medical field is already falling which makes the surgeons expect more patients coming into their clinics.

This trend is pretty much obvious in the United Kingdom. In 2011 about 800 men have undergone male breast reduction surgery. It’s double the number which was gathered around 5 years ago according to a certain news source. Also, in the United States, ASAPS or the American Society for The Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reveals about 18, 000 men undergoing gynecomastia surgery or breast reduction procedures. This number makes this procedure fourth among the most popular and sought of plastic surgery procedures made for men.

The word Gynecomastia describes a certain condition in which males develop breast tissue. It can result to discomfort and tenderness around the nipple area. This condition can also affect the person’s self-esteem. The news source says it commonly develops when boys enter adolescence through puberty. However, 30% of those who suffer from this condition are older men.

“I think the first time I realized I was kind of different, I was probably eight or nine in primary school. We went swimming and realized I thought that my chest looks slightly different to the other boys,” says Ayo Adesina, a breast reduction patient. “It was very, very, very annoying. Everyone in the changing rooms would say ‘Ayo, look at your little boobs’ and stuff like that, which was kind of hurtful. When I would look in the mirror, it does bother you, so I decided it was time to do something about it.”

The bad thing is that there are a lot of misconceptions with the word gynecomastia. This makes the patient’s lives more difficult to live. There are those who believe that breasts are formed because of poor diet and lack of exercise. The truth is that it can be caused by a lot of factors which vary from medication to hormone imbalances. This simple misunderstanding may make men decide to look for plastic surgery.

“I think giving patients the right information regarding their condition can greatly affect their decision-making attitude become easier,” says Dr. Sam Jejurikar from http://drjdallasplasticsurgeon.com/. “That’s why it’s very important if these guys really look for a more credible plastic surgery clinic.”

ASAPS say that gynecomastia affects about 60% of the male population. It can affect one breast leading to an asymmetrical appearance. To remove the excess tissue, doctors usually do liposuction which can leave a few scars behind. However, the result can be permanent. After a week, patients can actually return to work.
