ObamaCare is an Edsel and Chevy Nova Rolled into One—IT IS NOT A PR PROBLEM, IDIOTS!
When I was in high school during 1958-1960, the Ford Motor Company designed, developed, manufactured, and marketed the Edsel, named after Edsel Ford. That car was a bust. They could not sell it, and they lost a lot of money in developing that automobile. The Edsel had a distinctive air-intake grill in the front that looked like someone shaping their lips in a vertical oblong and sucking in air. Bottom line: the Edsel sucked.
General Motors attempted to sell the Chevy Nova in Latin America during the 1960s, which was a marketing bust. No va means “No go” or “It doesn’t go.” Where did their marketing experts have their heads stuffed, anyway? Snopes.com called it an urban legend, and if you believe that, I have some swampland in the Florida Everglades to sell you—quite cheap. Snopes.com has been proven to be inaccurate, a shill for the Obama administration, and funded by George Soros. Yikes! Check it out on the Internet.
Someone once said, “When you have a lemon, make lemonade of it.” Unfortunately, the lemon is rotten. Thus, what do we have?—nothing but rotten lemonade juice. Yuck! Obama handed us the ObamaCare lemon. He is trying hard to make lemonade out of it. However, all ObamaCare has become is ObamaScare. That is why the Obama administration has attempted to rewrite history as they usually do. They are backing away from touting the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as ObamaCare. They think the problem is a marketing problem. What they do not realize is that they have a systemic problem with ObamaScare.
When Obama turned over the development of the Affordable Care Act to the Democrats in the Congress, he did not lead the fight. He left it up to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader of the Senate Harry Reid to develop and pass through both houses of Congress. They committed all kinds of shenanigans to get the bill passed. They committed bribery, arm twisting, buying of votes, and working behind closed doors instead of doing things out in the open. They claimed to be the most transparent administration in the history of the United States.
The most transparent administration in history proves to be an untruth. They did everything behind closed doors and in secret. They employed bribery to gain the votes to pass the bill. They shut out the Republicans and did not work closely with them to develop a bi-partisan ACA. Consequently, not a single Republican voted for this monstrosity of a bill. The cost of ObamaCare turns out to be one-sixth of the American economy! Nancy Pelosi said, “We must pass the bill first before we will find out what’s in it.” That is transparency for you. Why would any politician in their right mind vote for a 2,700-page monstrosity of a bill that they did not read, analyze, and debate sufficiently? Well, we now have been finding out what is in it, and it is not good.
Max Baucus (D-Mont.), author of the ACA said that the implementation of ObamaCare is becoming a “train wreck.” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid agreed with Baucus. Do you know what a train wreck is? It is a disaster! It is destruction of property, lost lives, and many injured parties. It is a loss of a lot of money. This is what President Obama and the Democrat Party desire to fix! It is like attempting to revive a patient that has a pulse that has been flat-lined for 10 minutes. It is like saving a home in Florida that has gone down a sinkhole. It is like President John Kennedy putting lipstick on the Bay of Pigs fiasco. It is like President Jimmy Carter salvaging the Iranian hostage rescue attempt. It is like President Bill Clinton attempting to define what “is” is. It is like President Dick Nixon rebuilding his “expletive deleted” reputation. You cannot fix the unfixable.
Do not trust any chef cook who will not eat the food he prepares. When asked by ABC television whether Obama would give up their current health care program and join the universal health care program that the rest of us citizens would be on, there was a stony silence. Obama ignored the question and went on to other matters.
When the press asked several Congressmen the same question posed to Obama, they shortly thereafter passed legislation to exempt members of Congress from the universal healthcare program. Just as the chef who will not eat the food he prepares, do not trust politicians who will not include themselves to be subject to all of the laws they create. Politicians cook the books just as the chef cooks food. If they will put themselves above the law, we cannot trust them. Have you ever wondered why Congress has such low public ratings? That is why. They are a bunch of elitists who think they are better than the people who elected them to their lofty positions.
President Barack Obama humbly said, “We won; you lost!” What he was saying was, “We don’t need you Republicans to help us create this free healthcare plan for the millions of people who cannot afford health care.” The Republicans have come up with many good ideas over the years, but Obama and the Democrats have uniformly rejected all of them.
Some of the ideas include the following:
- Selling health insurance across state lines
- Vouchers for healthcare
- A market-based system instead of a government-based system
- Deliberately designed cost control system to minimize, reduce, and optimize costs
- Portable health care
- Honor people’s faith and protect the right of conscience in healthcare
- Tort reform to minimize frivolous lawsuits against doctors
- Freedom of choice—cafeteria style health benefits, not a one-size-fits-all plan
- No increasing of taxes to fund healthcare
- No increasing of government to control and run healthcare
- Employ the free market system to provide affordable healthcare through competition
- No mandates
- Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)
- Covering pre-existing conditions
- Incentives
- Increasing the quantity of new quality medical doctors
Bob Beckel and the liberal Democrats claim that healthcare is a right, not a privilege. You will not find that it is a right written anywhere in the Constitution of the United States or the Bill of Rights. We have only three God-given rights, which are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. ObamaCare attempts to take away the second of those three rights by telling us what care we will have, how much we should pay for it, what doctors we should use, and so on. Beckel considers free healthcare as part of pursuit of happiness. I just love how liberals and progressives attempt to revise the definition of pursuit of happiness to fit their agendas. Healthcare is not a right; instead, it is a privilege.
Everything Obama has done has been to destroy the free enterprise system, to destroy capitalism, and to replace it with centralized control, big government, spread the wealth (redistribution of wealth), and taking from the “haves” and giving it to the “have nots.” Obama seeks to control the people, not help the people. He is making invalids of the poor. He will be making the majority beholden to him and the liberals/progressives, just so that they will continually vote for them and for more free stuff.
ObamaCare and all other entitlement programs must go. We must not allow social medicine to control our lives. Obama said, “People call me a socialist sometimes.” No truer words spoken. He is a socialist—a Marxist socialist to be exact. When people understand that, they will understand why he is pushing to implement his ObamaCare plan—at all cost. This is his signature legislation, and he will not compromise one iota to change it as it is. Consequently, this is the worst piece of legislation in history.
Obama sold his ObamaCare plan through the big lies. I say we will not be able to achieve affordable healthcare, period! We will not be able to keep our own health plan, period! We will not be able to keep our preferred doctor, period! Obama’s lies were part of Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals bait-and-switch scheme. Be very skeptical of a Pied Piper snake oil Salesman.
They say they have a glitch. What is a glitch? A glitch is a minor malfunction, mishap, or technical problem, a snag such as a computer glitch, and a short-lived fault in a system. Thus, is it just a bug or is it a structural problem? If it is only a bug, they should be able to fix it quickly and easily within days. However, it is a structural problem; hence, they must go back to square one and start over from a blank sheet of paper.
You cannot fix a system that you design incorrectly from the get-go. Some of the significant things that they did not do include the following:
- They failed to develop the network architecture using a product development team (PDT) or a cross-functional team (CFT). They did not include all different views from different functional organizations (engineering, manufacturing, finance, administration, marketing/sales, logistics, information technology, safety/security, quality assurance, and so on) and even consulting medical doctors, and both liberal and conservative people from the major political parties. They had a set liberal/progressive mindset to develop the healthcare system, which is where they went wrong. The development team suffered from groupthink. They needed some “devils advocates” on the development team to identify problem areas.
- They failed to appoint a system program manager (SPM) with the overall responsibility for the cost, schedule, design, development, test, and deployment of the entire system.
- They failed to develop and employ an integrated master plan (IMP) and an integrated master schedule (IMS).
- They failed to design security, safety, reliability, maintainability, and integrated logistics into the basic network architecture, which caused all of the problems they are currently experiencing with identity thief hackers breaking into the system and stealing personal, proprietary information.
- They failed to apply proper system engineering principles to the system development.
- They failed to prepare and follow a system engineering management plan (SEMP).
- They failed to perform functional analysis.
- They failed to perform a cost-benefit analysis.
- They failed to apply design-to-cost principles and lifecycle cost principles.
- They failed to perform technical tradeoff studies.
- They failed to perform cost tradeoff studies.
- They failed to perform schedule tradeoff studies.
- They failed to employ the spiral development methodology.
- They failed to perform risk management (including risk identification, risk assessment, risk analysis, and risk mitigation) principles.
- They failed to conduct major design reviews (preliminary design review, critical design review, and other such reviews) at key points in the design.
- They failed to conduct the test-fix-test approach throughout the development process.
- They failed to perform alpha and beta testing of the software development.
- They failed to do end-to-end testing before rolling out the ill-fated system.
You cannot fix a fundamentally flawed system by doing band-aide fixes. The cost will go out of this world. ObamaCare needs a total redo or do-over. You cannot fix the system by changing its name. You cannot fix the system by spending billions of dollars on commercials and advertising. You cannot fix the system by rhetoric and more rhetoric and ridiculous talking points. You cannot fix the system by giving special groups a dispensation from the requirements of the law. You cannot fix the system by bringing in the top-quality people in the country in the ninth inning. Where were these top-quality people in the first inning?
That is why they ended with a kludge or kluge of a system. A kludge is a system, especially a computer system, comprised of poorly matched elements or of elements originally intended for other applications. Furthermore, it is a clumsy or inelegant solution to a problem. That is why the Obama administration ended with a Rube Goldberg project and system. The problem with ObamaCare is not a public relations problem. The problem is a fundamental architectural, structural, and systemic design problem. You can fix such a problem only by starting over from scratch and doing it right the first time through. That is my recommendation to President Obama and his ill-advised ObamaCare system.
