Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is one of the more exciting developments in skin rejuvenation and, like with all new treatments, it is natural to worry about safety. The truth is that although PRP treatments make use of a great deal of science, they are also completely safe. The reason is because of how the treatment works and makes use of your body’s natural functions and fluids.

What Is PRP Therapy?

To the naked eye, blood looks like a singular substance. Under the microscope, it is revealed that blood is actually made up of a variety of different cells including plasma, red and white blood cells, and platelets. All of these substances have their role in the body, and one of the jobs that platelets have is to trigger the body’s repair mechanisms. These mechanisms respond to the presence of platelets and will act to remedy the areas they are most concentrated in. This forms the crux of PRP injections. By drawing blood and using a centrifuge (a device used in labs to separate substances) to extract platelet-rich plasma, a large jolt of healing factors can be delivered to targeted areas of your skin.
