New Pre Operational Screening Being Pushed for Plastic Surgery
There is much debate on the subject of choosing patients wisely in plastic surgery. Many doctors believe that there should be some kind of screening process for individuals that are looking for cosmetic surgery.
This consideration came into the spotlight after a glaring oversight from the plastic surgery committee regarding this matter. There is very little research done on the subject, and it seems that doctors are usually only aware of the physical well being of their patients before and after surgery.
Many clinics forgo the consideration of trying to assess the psychological well being of their patients before and after surgery. There is very little done to ascertain the way the procedure has affected the way that the patient views and interacts socially, how the patient has adjusted to the changes in their appearance, or even the long term satisfaction of the patient.
Many researchers believe that this is a highly poignant consideration. They feel that there should be a screening process to judge the mental capacity of the patient to adjust to the physical changes that they will be going through. This was presented at the Appearance Matters 5 conference, where the researches showed the great benefits that the screening process would have in assessing the capability of the patient, as well as their overall satisfaction.
