Vendors and colleges need to connect

(Before It's News)

Sometimes the law of supply and demand gets a little messed up.

This article, for example, references the oft-cited figure of 50,000 as it begins a look at the health IT employment landscape. That’s the number of IT employees federal officials say will be needed to fully staff the healthcare sector as providers continue to cross the digital divide. But finding those employees is already proving difficult.

Part of the problem, it seems, is the vendors who are supplying providers with EHR and other IT systems. As John Hoyt, executive vice president of HIMSS Analytics, puts it, “Some vendors will say, ‘You cannot have somebody install my software that I have not certified as a certified installer on my system.’ The vendor becomes a bottleneck."

Another problem is that even after they get their degrees, newly minted IT grads still aren’t aware of the array of opportunities available in the healthcare sector.

According to Hoyt, “"The vendors need to get on college campuses."

So in the interest of trying to do our part, and on the assumption that some vendors read this blog, we’d like to bring your attention to a free webinar, sponsored by Bryant & Stratton College Online, that is aimed right at current and prospective students who might be considering an IT or healthcare career.

Dubbed "How the Electronic Health Record Impacts Today's Healthcare Administrators", the webinar will be held on Wednesday, July 18, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. EDT and will discuss the critical role EHRs play in a variety of healthcare settings including private practice, facilities and hospitals.

According to an announcement by the college, “The webinar will provide current and prospective students an overview of how the Electronic Health Record is maintained and used in facilitating patient care.” Participants will also be able to ask questions about careers in the medical informatics field and the online degree programs at Bryant & Stratton College Online.
