Thousands Greeks have started to flock to Syntagma Square and take place in front of the Parliament. Protesters arrive in downtown Athens with the Metro, the one public transport mean operating during the 48-hours strike. There are two rallies planned for today. One in the morning with the participation of public and private sector labour unions. And one in the afternoon where also a music concert will take place.
Protesters from several parts of the country, like Corfu, Peloponnese or Thessaloniki, are expected to join the Athens rallies.
With a sound voice, slogans, banners and flags, labour unions and “Indignant” Greeks aim to influence lawmakers and avert them for voting for the Mid-Term Austerity Programme. The voting is scheduled for tomorrow, June 29.
The kick-off of a 48-hours general strike started at 8 o’clock in the morning with members of the Greek Communist party blocking ferries from sailing off from Piraeus port.
